Set Up Your Dialup Internet Connection

Need to set up your GSInet dialup Internet connection? Just click on the name of your computer's operating system below for detailed instructions.

Windows XP

Setting up your dialup Internet connection using Windows XP:

If you have Windows XP installed on your computer, then follow these instructions for setting up your dialup connection using Internet Explorer as your browser software.

Click on the Internet Explorer icon located on your desktop or on the Start menu located in the bottom, left-hand corner of your screen.
Click on the Tools button located at the top of your screen and select Internet Options. (If you have Internet Explorer 7.0 and the top Menu Bar and Tools button aren't visible, right click in the grey area below the website address bar. Select Menu Bar from the drop-down menu that appears, and follow instructions above.)
Select the Connections tab, then click the Setup button.

When the New Connection Wizard opens, click on Next at the bottom of the window to continue.
At the Network Connection Type window, select Connect to the Internet, then click Next.

At the Getting Ready window, select Set up my connection manually, then choose Next.

At the Internet Connection window, click Connect using a dialup modem, then select Next.
At the Connection Name window type: GSInet, then click Next.
At the Internet Account Connection Information window, enter your local access number, then select Next. Click here to search for a local access number
At the Connection Availability window you can make the new connection available to any user or only to yourself. Select the appropriate use for your connection and click Next.
At the Internet Account Information window, type your username and password. Next, retype your password in the Confirm password box and place a check mark in each box at the bottom of the window, then click Next.

At the Completing the New Connection window, click Finish.

You are now connected to the Internet using GSInet and can surf using an Internet browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Setting up your dialup Internet connection using Windows Vista:

If you have Windows Vista installed on your computer, follow these instructions for setting up your dialup connection using Internet Explorer as your browser software.

Click on the Start button.
In the Start Search box type Internet Options and press the enter key on your keyboard.
From the Internet Properties menu, select the Connections tab, then click the Add button.

From the Connect to the Internet menu, select Dial-up.
In the Dial-up phone number field, enter your local access number. Click here to search for a local access number
Enter the user name you chose when you signed up for service in the User name field.
Enter the password you chose when you signed up for service in the Password field.
In the Connection name field type: GSInet
Check the Allow other people to use this connection box only if you want other people to be able to use your Internet connection.
Select Connect at the bottom of the screen to continue with set up.

If you want to skip the test connection, click on the Skip button at the bottom of the Connect to the Internet menu. A screen will appear that says The Internet connectivity test was unsuccessful, choose Set up the connection anyway to continue with the set up.

The Connect to the Internet menu should now say The connection to the Internet is ready to use.
Click Close at the bottom of the screen. Your Internet set up is now complete.

You are now connected to the Internet using GSInet and can surf using an Internet browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Setting up your dialup Internet connection using a Macintosh OS X (10):

If you have a Macintosh OS X (10) computer, follow these instructions for setting up your dialup connection.

Click the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.

In the System Preferences window, click Network.
In the Location field, select Automatic. In the Show field, select Modem Port.

Click on the TCP/IP tab.
In the Configure field, select Using PPP.
In the Domain Name Servers field, enter 12.6.236.126 and 199.170.121.15.

Click on the PPP tab.
In the Service Provider field, enter GSInet.
In the Telephone Number field, enter your local access number. If you have more than one local access number, it can be entered in the Alternate Number field. Click here to search for a local access number
In the Account Name field, enter your username. Your username should be in lowercase letters with no spaces.
In the Password field, enter your password.
Check the Save password box only if you would like to allow any user to access your Internet account without entering a password.

Click the PPP Options button.
In the Session Options section, check the Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications, and Disconnect when user logs out options. All other session options are optional.

In the Advanced Options section, check the Send PPP echo packets, and Use TCP header compression options. All other advanced options are optional.

Select Ok.
Click on the Proxies tab. GSInet does not use proxy servers. These options should NOT be checked.
Click on the Modem tab, and choose your modem type from the Modem field. If your modem came with your computer, it will most likely be listed as Apple Internal 56K modem (v.90).
In the Sound field, select On.
In the Dialing field, select Tone or Pulse as applicable to your telephone system.
Click on the Wait for dial tone before dialing option.

Click Save.

You are now connected to the Internet using GSInet and can surf using an Internet browser.
